Telling stories is my life. Stories about wizards, grief, ogres, laughter and giant octopuses. I want to hear the yeti's roar and see the snowy peaks shake.
After spending a summer in the Arctic driving a warship through fields of icebergs, I wrote my first book. After spending a year in Afghanistan deploying helicopters to rescue dying soldiers, I wrote my second novel.
Since retiring from the military I’ve grown my hair long, written, hosted, workshopped, taught, performed, and organized poetry festivals in Canada, Afghanistan, China, Nicaragua, London, and Paris – for me, it’s not enough to write stories; I live them too.
